LOW VOLTAGE CABLE 600/1000V

Used for reticulation, mining, underground power supply and house connections. The majority of our low voltage cable has an XLPE insulation. The cable is Single Wire Armoured (SWA) but can be manufactured unarmoured. It is available in Flame Retardant (FR), Low Halogen Cable (LHC) or Halogen Free Cable (HFC). We stock 1,5mm to 300mm in copper and aluminium from 25mm to 300mm. The cable is manufactured to the SANS 1507 Standard.

MEDIUM VOLTAGE CABLE

Cross-linked Polyethylene, XLPE, cable is used for underground reticulation, main distribution systems, sub-stations and mining. Three core cables come standard with Single Wire Armour (SWA), but can be manufactured unarmoured. Single core cables are either unarmoured or have an Aluminium Wire Armour (AWA). It is available in Flame Retardant (FR), Low Halogen Cable (LHC) or Halogen Free Cable (HFC). We mainly stock 25mm to 300mm 3 core copper 6,35/11kV but any size and voltage can be manufactured including supertension cables (over33kV). Cable is manufactured to the SANS 1339 Standard.

FLEXIBLE CABLE

Our range includes Welding Cable, Neopreen Trailing, PVC Nitrile Trailing Cable, Submersible Pump Cable and Panel Wire.

FLEXIBLE CABLE RANGE

WELDING CABLE

Welding Cable is a single core, multi-stranded PVC insulated cable. From 16mm² to 70mm², the outer sheath is a soft flexible grade PVC and is most suited for welding. From 95mm² to 185mm² the outer sheath is a PVC/rubber nitrile blend. Both types of welding are rated for 600/1000V.

Each size of welding has a different colour:

Green Blue Grey Red Brown Yellow Black Black Black
16mm² 25mm² 35mm² 50mm² 70mm² 95mm² 120mm² 150mm² 185mm²
HO7RN-F (NEOPREEN TRAILING)

HO7RN-F is used to supply power to mobile or portable machinery. Due to the multi-stranding and lack of armour the cable is flexible. The insulation and the outer sheath is rubber. This makes the cable water, oil, petrochemical and abrasion resistant. HO7RN-F is available in all the sizes of standard armoured cable, including single core from 35mm².

The voltage rating of HO7RN-F is 450/750V.

PVC NITRILE TRAILING CABLE 600/1000V

PVC Nitrile Trailing is used to supply power to portable or mobile machinery. Due to the multi-stranding of the copper and lack of armour this cable is flexible. The outer sheath is a tightly bonded PVC/rubber blend nitrile sheath and is orange in colour. This makes the cable water, oil and abrasion resistant.

PVC Nitrile Trailing is available from 1,5mm²x4 to 35mm²x4 and has a voltage rating of 600/1000V.

FIBRE OPTIC CABLE

What is fibre optics?

It's the transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibres.

Each fibre is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractions so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fibre without escaping.

To protect the glass fibre, a coating is applied over the glass by the manufacturer.

Why fibre is better than copper?

  • Fibre has a much larger bandwidth. (Carries more information.)
  • Fibre has a much lower attenuation.
  • Fibre is unaffected by electromagnetic interference. (From lightning, nearby electric motors, and similar sources.)
  • Fibre does not radiate electromagnetic energy.
  • Fibre is small and light.
  • Longer cable distances. (Reaching up to 20 times greater distance than Category 6cabling.)
  • Higher Security (Tapping into cable is easily detected.)
  • Implementation of fibre cable.
  • LAN (Local Area Network) To connect two or more computers.
  • WAN (Wide Area Network) Multi-location covering metropolitan area or industrial environment. (Telkom)

Types of fibre

Optical glass is sold based on the core / cladding dimensions.

Multi mode, the most common fibre is 50/ 125 microns where 50 is the size of the core while the 125 microns is the size over the cladding.

50/125um and 62.5/125um fibres are usually used in short distance applications, typically up to 2Km.

It has a large core thus allowing many light rays (modes) to propagate.

Single mode, has a very small core, allowing only one mode of light to be transmitted.

The core size of a single mode fibre is called as the mode diameter and ranges between 8.3 and 10 microns. It may be written 9/125 or 10/125.

9/125um fibres are usually used in long distance applications.

When it comes to Fibre Optic Cable, we ensure accurate deliveries due to our stock levels and variety.

We offer Aerial Duct Self Support (ADSS).

As the name refers to, this cable is commonly installed where the cable route requires the cable to be pole mounted or from one building to another.

There are four different cable constructions for Aerial Cable, each with different installation conditions.

FIBRE OPTIC RANGE

ADSS
ADSS SPAN ADSS SPAN
Short Span Aerial <80m Medium Span Aerial <250m
Enhanced Short Span <150m Long Span Aerial <400m
CORRUGATED STEEL TAPE (CST)

Armoured with a corrugated steel tape CST is one of the most suitable fibre cables for outdoor cable routes. This cable is also used where rodents are a threat. The most common fibre counts are: 4 core, 8 core, 12 core, 16 core and 24 core.

HEAVY DUTY DUCT

Well known for versatility, HDD was designed to cater for installations where the fibre might take strain. Protected by aramid yarn, HDD is the ultimate in reliability for rizer shafts and or extensions to other buildings. The most common fibre counts are: 4 core, 8 core, 12 core, 16 core, 24 core, 36and 48 core.

LOW COUNT DUCT (LCD)

Also referred to as LCD, Low Count Duct offer high quality links for a combination of indoor and outdoor environments. This cable is most suited for indoor installations and can extend to the outdoors if it is protected. The most common fibre counts are: 4 core, 8 core, 12 core, 16 core and 24 core.

PATCH CORD (ZIPCORD)

Flat twin (2 fibre), tight buffered cable designed for production of patch cords and pigtails but can also be used indoor for short distance installations in trunking.

SPECIAL DESIGNS

Special designs are made to ensure the best cable for the site/customer. We cater for special requirements like LHcL or Double Steel Wire Armoured etc. to meet requirements for the most extreme conditions like down a mine shaft.
